  • May 2004:  CAAR Communicator -- Leaving for Lack of Value?  No!

We know why agronomists join the CCA program -- increased agronomic knowledge and recognition as a qualified provider of information.  But what are their reasons for leaving?  The board interviewed some 40 who dropped from the program last year.

  • 65% had changed jobs, and their new job either did not require CCA status, or the job did not permit time to attend CEU events.  Some new employers did not pay CCA annual fees or CEU costs.

  • 45% were no longer advising growers.  They either moved entirely out of agriculture, or into management or administrative roles.

  • 20% were unable to meet their CEU requirements.  The largest barrier was the time to attend the events, followed by registration costs, availability of local events and lack of Soil and Water Management events.

  • 10% indicated the program was too expensive in cost of time and registration for CEU events.  Employers paid annual fees for most of the CCA's.

  • Only 5% indicated that they were not receiving value from the program.

So, although people do leave the CCA program, it appears that only a small minority leave for lack of value.  Most of those leaving do so for job changes.
