  • April 2003:  Prairie CCA Corner

Part of the mandate of the Prairie CCA Board is to promote the Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) program in the industry.  As a unit, the Board is moving ahead with increasing the awareness of the designation with 2 client groups -- growers and senior government officials.  The technical expertise possessed by CCA's is becoming increasingly important as growers strive to meet future agronomic challenges and incorporate new technologies into their crop production operations.  There is also an ever increasing degree of regulations and guidelines that the industry must abide by in order to conduct its daily operations, specifically relating to manure and nutrient management.  The CCA program requires competency-based continuing education that deals directly with these important issues and can be looked to for assistance in meeting these standards.  As the CCA program continues to evolve, it is imperative that additional awareness regarding the role of the CCA be presented to ensure that growers know who their local CCA's are, and the knowledge they possess.  While it is unlikely that many growers readily visit the American Society of Agronomy's web site (www.agronomy.org) and source out their local CCA's, the success of making the program visible to the industry rests with each member.  Some CCA's promote their designation on business cards, attach CCA labels to their vehicles, or even don the CCA logo on their attire.  Regardless of the medium utilized, the Board encourages all Prairie CCA's to help promote their designation for the betterment of the program, and the entire agricultural industry.
